    • APR cracks Porsche 991.2 Siemens SDI 21.X OBD-II port flashing - Handheld ECU unlocks coming soon?

This is huge, huge news for the Porsche 991.2 aftermarket. To date, whether you own a Porsche 991.2 Carrera or 991.2 Turbo S, in order to tune the car the physical removal of the ECU to be unlocked was necessary.

Well, APR just changed the game. They cracked OBD-II port Siemens SDI 21.X flashing which means any APR dealer can unlock your ECU without any need to physically remove or even touch the ECU:

For nearly a year we've been working on our new porsche catalogue and the release is near. Earlier this year we cracked the 991.2 Turbo's SDI 21.x ECU and have OBDII port flashing ready (an industry first), so no shipping ECUs for an unlock.

If you're interested in the tune, sign up for our newsletter so you hear about it when it releases: https://goapr.io/email

Also, to help us make sure we have software for your ECU, if you're able to scan your ECU for your ECU box code or revision, please send the info to svor@goapr.com with your vehicle's year / make / model / etc info. We'll contact you when it's ready. Alternatively, an APR dealer can do this for you.
This is the next big step forward the 991.2 tuning community was waiting for since the SDI21 ECU originally was cracked back in late 2017. It will be interesting to see if these leads to handheld solutions and how the competition reacts.

APR's return to Porsche tuning is paying major dividends and they certainly appear to be making their way to the forefront of the sector as far as software is concerned.

Great news and great potential going forward for everyone with a 991.2.

Cobb does not make a OBD2 Accessport for this 991.2. Only the 991.1

No. We write our own software and tools from the ground up. Currently, no one else is able to port flash this ECU.

What do you mean? I have AccessPort for 991.2.....but it requires bench flash unlike this solution. This is exciting!!!

Does APR release for TT/TTS only and not other 991.2 models?

What about EVOMSit 991.2 Turbo S Performance Software, is that not a port flash?

I mean an OBD2 Accesport that doesn't require the ECU to be removed for the first initial flash.

We're doing software for all of the 991.2 models we can get our hands on.

I'm not aware of a single person in the industry that can do a port flash, yet, (we're well connected on that front - most are using other tools on the market, few do their own). We figured it out this past year (April?) and have been waiting on several tunes to release at once.

Do we get a tuning box to save the factory tune to remove your tune before service ?

We have all of the factory tunes on our server, so there's no need to save it anywhere. If you would like to reflash it, any APR dealer can put it back on the vehicle. Since there's no unlock procedure, you would not need to pull out the ECU, open it, and ship it across the country as was the norm to this point.

So if you go to the dealership for any work, you go with the tune in it. If the dealer updates the DME , then you’ll have to be reflashed again at an APR dealer ?

If the software gets overwritten, yes, you'll need to get an update from us. There's no charge for the updates on our end.

Will you have PDK TCU tuning software? This is what I am lacking right now with my Dodson PDK upgrade.

Who is actually developing the tune for the 991.2 TTS ? Will you have dyno before/after data at the launch ?

More than likely they will have before/after dyno, GPS acceleration data and real world quarter mile performance data prior to the launch. That is the typical MO for APR when they release an upgrade. I know this is apples/oranges, but take a look at the data they give your for the RS3.
